ROUND-UP ’Shire inspired to super victory by youngster

WEEK five of the Scottish cricket season resulted in victories for Forfarshir­e, Grange, Watsonians, Aberdeensh­ire and RH Corstorphi­ne.

In Arbroath, the home side opted to bat first and got off to a flyer, scoring 46 off the first six overs.

However, Forfarshir­e youngster Christian Robertson produced an inspired spell of bowling.

He snapped up five wickets for 20 runs off 7.1 overs to keep Arbroath at bay and bowl them out for 180 in 45 overs.

Profession­al Shanaku Vithanawas­um top scored for the Lichties with 67.

In reply, Forfarshir­e made light work of the total, chasing it down with the loss of two wickets.

Youngster Craig Johnston scored 35 at the top of the order.

Stars Craig Wallace and Michael Leask scored 47 not out and 67 not out respective­ly to see the Dundee side home.

Aberdeensh­ire surprised Heriot’s at Goldenacre, defeating the home side by three wickets.

Heriot’s batted first and scored 206-8 in the allotted overs.

Kinross lad Pete Ross continued his good form with 53. Hirupam Doley took 3-38 for the north side.

The men from the north-east made sure their long journey back home was a good one by chasing down the runs with six overs to go. Profession­al Merengnage and Craig Knight both made 53.

Grange made light work of Edinburgh rivals Carlton, beating them by 71 runs.

Dylan Budge scored 100 to propel Grange to 249-8 helped by Farrar’s 50.

Ali Evans was the pick of the bowlers with 4-41.

Andrew Brock made sure Carlton were never in with a shout by taking a magnificen­t 6-26.

RH Corstorphi­ne hammered Stewart’s-Melville by 203 runs.

Batting first, Corstorphi­ne scored 289-6 with notable performanc­es from Azam with 83, Flett with 77 and Foster with 68.

Callum Dutia bowled a fantastic spell of 5-14 supported by Majid Haq with 3-12 to bowl Stewart’s-Melville out for 86.

At Myreside, Mike Carson was Man of the Match, taking 3-32 and scoring 71.

Glenrothes batted first and put on 230 thanks mainly to Sharif, who scored a very impressive 78.

Watsonians chased it down with the loss of four wickets with Ewan Chalmers supporting Carson with 67.

In the Eastern Second Division, there was an unbelievab­le game between Arbroath and Forfarshir­e IIs.

Forfarshir­e batted first and scored 352-1 with Chris Greaves scoring a magnificen­t 206 not out in an opening stand worth 306 with Callum Garden, who notched up 117.

Undaunted, Arbroath hit 330 i n reply with Bryce Carnegie scoring 146.

In the west, the best game was Stirling against Ayr.

Stirling batted first and were 178 all out inside 40 overs.

In reply, Peters scored 57 for Ayr.

However, it wasn’t to be as they fell 14 runs short at New Williamfie­ld, Gavin Anderson the star with the ball with 3-25.

IN the Watson’s National Village Cup Semi-Final (Scottish Region), Meigle lost at home to Falkland.

Scores – Meigle 120 all out (C J P Clark 26, B Strachan 4-9, A Hamilton Jr 3-18; Falkland 121-4 (G Doig 38, B Strachan 37 not out).

Falkland won by six wickets and play Freuchie i n the Scottish final on June 10 (1pm).
