Williams signs for Forest Green

ST JOHNSTONE have lost out i n the race to sign winger George Williams, who was on loan to them l ast season from Fulham.

The Welsh internatio­nal has opted to sign for Forest Green Rovers, who j ust escaped t he drop from Sky Bet League Two last season, their first in the English League.

The player, who was not offered a new deal by Fulham this summer, did well for Saints after joining in January but has gone to Forest Green on a two-year deal.

At the end of the season, he said he had enjoyed his time at Saints.

However, he has opted to join the Gloucester­shire outfit, saying it’s a “perfect” move.

Williams said:“After coming to Forest Green last week, speaking t o manager Mark Cooper and finding out a bit more about him, t he chairman and theambitio­ns they have for the club, everything was perfect for me.

“I’m really looking forward to being a part of the team.”

Speaking about his past and future with Wales, he added: “There’s no better feeling than to represent your country and I was thrilled to be involved at Euro 2016.

“I’ll remember it forever because it was so special to be part of that team and get to the semi-finals.

“It’s a bit of a dream, it’s still a bit of a blur but it’s something I’m proud of.

“I’ve come t o Forest Green to r e i g n i t e my internatio­nal prospects.

“I had options t o go elsewhere but, after speaking to the manager, everything seemed right.

“I’m really positive and, hopefully, I can do well at Forest Green and get back in t h a t Wa l e s squad.”
