Move on pavement parking will improve safety

Evening Telegraph (First Edition) - - Uk World Today -

THE Scottish Government is doing the right thing in cracking down on pavement parking across Scotland.

I hate it. I’ve had to, on numerous occasions, go out on to the road – sometimes with a double buggy – in order to get past cars because their selfish drivers have abandoned their vehicles on a route designed specifically for pedestrians.

I get that there are issues with finding places to park in Dundee – it’s the same in every town or city built before the 21st Century.

These places simply aren’t designed to accommodate so many cars.

However it doesn’t give drivers an excuse to just dump their vehicles on the pavement and block the way for folk trying to walk safely along the side of the road.

Obviously, the government has to be sensible about it and target the right areas.

But this is a step in the right direction.

At the end of the day, it’s a safety issue, and no one pushing children or a wheelchair should be forced on to the road.
