Response to complaints about buses

Evening Telegraph (First Edition) - - Uk World Today -

I COULDN’T resist replying to the letters in Monday’s Tele, criticising Xplore Dundee’s bus services.

Linda Letford had problems with the 17 bus – join our club, Linda.

The 17 is our only choice for Pentland, Ancrum Road and Charleston Drive to the hospital and/or town.

It’s a half-hour service if you’re lucky. This turns to 40 minutes when it has to serve the 10-minute round-trip from the hospital via Explorer Road and return to the hospital.

The other writer, “Bus user”, criticised the times of buses on other routes – including the overkill frequency of the 22, while sometimes having to wait 15-30 minutes for a 29 or a 28.

One day, arriving at the hospital on a 29 from town, the driver had to join a long queue of buses awaiting access to the bus stops.

The bus preventing access for the 29 was another 29!

A spokeswoman for the company gave reasons for the 17’s delay problems, but then made comment on how the company reviews the network to ensure – I would assume – there is efficiency.

I’m not sure who writes the script, but perhaps they should think about a different vocation. Oh for a return to the old Dundee transport, trams and all!

WITH regard to Xplore’s explanation about the number 17, I was standing at the bottom bus stop on Commercial Street – aware that the buses were coming along Seagate.

It is a poor excuse that because of roadworks on Victoria Road, the bus does not turn up. We could accept it being late but not turning up at all is ridiculous.

Regarding number 22, number 5, etc – why not lower the waiting time for the 17 and divert some of the 5s and 22s on to the 17 service?

Linda Letford.
