Dundee teenager tri­umphs in big Ed­in­burgh tour­ney

DUNDEE young­ster Jed Alexan­der (17) won the Men’s East of Scot­land Ten­nis Cham­pi­onship in Ed­in­burgh.

He came through a 64-man main draw against play­ers from all over the coun­try at the David Lloyd Cen­tre.

Jed won five matches to suc­ceed in the cham­pi­onship, beat­ing the No 2 seed in the quar­ter-fi­nals, and the No 1 seed, Vas­sili Mar­cus PsaltopoulousMead­ows, in the fi­nal.

In the fi­nal, Jed won the open­ing set 6-3 with Psaltopoulous-Mead­ows fight­ing back to win the sec­ond 6-3.

The match was de­cided on a tie-break that Jed won 10-7.

Jed also re­cently won the West of Scot­land 18 and un­der sin­gles in Glas­gow along with the 18 and un­der mixed dou­bles ti­tle with Lu­cia Rizza from Colin­ton.

This is a con­fi­dence boost for Jed as the Har­ris Academy Sports Per­son­al­ity of the Year is leav­ing for Swe­den on Au­gust 12 to at­tend the Good to Great Academy.

He will be tu­tored by Mag­nus Nor­man, one of the world’s top coaches, and his team at the academy in Stock­holm.
