Joe is captain against Barcelona
A YOUNGSTER with a strong Carse of Gowrie connection has returned home after captaining The New Saints (TNS) U/12s against Barcelona in a Spanish tournament.
Joe Drummond (11) lives with his family in Penyffordd, a village in Wales seven miles from Wrexham.
He j oined the TNS Academy as an U/8 and plays for the U/12 team with some of their games being against top English League outfits.
However, recently he made the huge leap to playing against the mighty Barca.
TNS participated in the Jamon Cup for the second successive year, the only side to have done so.
All the top La Liga clubs entered teams in the prestigious cup competition.
TNS put up a good show and, against Barcelona, they lost 2-0.
However, they gave an extremely good account of themselves.
Joe’s dad, Innes, from St Madoes.
His grandmother, Elsa Drummond, still lives there and his grandfather, the late Ken Drummond, was the driving force behind the massive Letham football set-up in Perth.
Innes said: “Playing in Spain was great for Joe. He was proud to captain the team. It was a great honour.” is
