Lewis wins en­gi­neer­ing schol­ar­ship

A HIGH School of Dundee pupil has won a na­tional schol­ar­ship as he aims to be one of the coun­try’s lead­ing en­gi­neers.

A spokesman for the school said Lewis By­ers is one of only 30 pupils in Scot­land to have been se­lected to re­ceive an Ark­wright Schol­ar­ship, a pres­ti­gious award which aims to in­spire and nur­ture school-age stu­dents to be the UK’s fu­ture l ead­ers of t he en­gi­neer­ing pro­fes­sion.

The F5 pupil will now re­ceive guid­ance and real-world in­dus­try in­sight from a men­tor who works in the me­chan­i­cal en­gi­neer­ing sec­tor – which Lewis hopes to pur­sue a ca­reer in – as well as £600 over two years to as­sist with his devel­op­ment.

The spokesman said: “Lewis was awarded his schol­ar­ship af­ter com­ing through a rig­or­ous se­lec­tion process which be­gan in F4 and in­cluded a de­tailed ap­pli­ca­tion, a prob­lem solv­ing test and fi­nally a panel in­ter­view at Her­riot Watt Uni­ver­sity.”
