Unfilled school posts ‘very concerning’

-

CONCERNS have been raised after figures showed 11 teaching posts in D u ndee re ma i n u n fi l led w it h recruitment currently ongoing for another 15 jobs.

The figures, obtained by the Scottish Liberal Democrats, reveal that vacancies exist at Morgan, Grove, Baldragon, Braeview and Harris academies as well as at St John’s and Craigie high schools.

They show that one teaching post has been vacant since June 2017.

Posts remain unfilled in business studies, craft, design and technology, maths and modern languages.

Meanwhile, the figures reveal that a recruitment process for teachers in subjects including science, home economics, English and PE is taking place at schools including St Paul’s RC Academy, St Fergus Primary School and Rowantree Primary School.

Broughty Ferry councillor Craig Duncan called the figures “very concerning.”

“This reveals a worrying number of teaching posts unfilled across the city. Dundee City council must redouble its efforts to get these posts filled.

Convener of children and families services Stewart t Hunter said: “This year has seen the position in Dundee improve in comparison to previous years but there are still some vacancies. This is a priority for the department. However, 56% of vacancies are already well advanced in the recruitment process.”
