Right-turn ban on busy road

DRIVERS will be banned from turning right on a stretch of one of Kirkcaldy’s busiest routes.

Members of Fife Council’s Kirkcaldy area committee have agreed to promote a new traffic regulation order which will formally prohibit right turns at the junctions of Park Road and Mitchelsto­n Drive with Dunnikier Way.

A transport officials’ study highlighte­d a number of incidents on that stretch. Most were associated with emerging traffic and further investigat­ions revealed the highest risks involved motorists exiting side roads to turn right.

Changes were made to signs and road alignment to try to persuade drivers to make left turns instead but many motorists have ignored the instructio­ns.

The formal order will give Police Scotland the power to take enforcemen­t action.

Meanwhile, councillor­s have also agreed to increase the parking limit on Hunter Street from one to two hours following a request from businesses. DUNDEE East MSP Shona Robison has spoken of her concerns about the impact Brexit will have on the city.

Ms Robison teamed up with party colleagues at Holyrood to raise the issue of Brexit and how it will affect European nationals living in Dundee, as well as the city’s educationa­l institutio­ns and research centres.

The vote to decide whether parliament adopts Prime Minister Theresa May’s so-called EU divorce deal will take place tomorrow.
