MONIFIETH councillor Ben Lawrie has been named as prospective Liberal Democrat Westminster candidate for Angus in the event of a snap election or the next general election.

Mr Lawrie said: “Brexit will be the central issue of any snap election.

“As chairman of the East of Scotland European Consortium, I have spent my time as a councillor lobbying all levels of government to mitigate the threat that Brexit poses to Angus, our local businesses and our quality of life.”

He added: “The only democratic way to r e s o lv e B r e x i t is a people’s vote.”
