Stars record fine as Steelers easily

KITMART Dundee Stars secured their first wins of 2019 with two thrashings of Sheffield Steelers.

Omar Pacha’s team defeated Tom Barrasso’s Steelers 6-3 in Yorkshire on Saturday before thumping the Steelmen 6-1 i n Dundee last night.

Two quick goals from Fabrizio Ricci and Drydn Dow gave Dundee the lead inside the opening 10 minutes in Sheffield.

The home side responded with a goal from Mark Matheson but Ricci was on the mark again as he made it 3-1 before the first break.

The only goal in the second period came from John Armstrong as he netted on a powerplay.

Steelers tied the game through Ryan Martinelli early in the final stanza then Stars re-took the lead.

Matt Marquardt’s and François Bouchard’s powerplay markers made it 5-3 to the Tayside team before Ricci bagged his-hat-trick.

That win was Dundee’s first ever in Yorkshire as they broke a 25-game losing streak in the House of Steel. It was also Pacha’s first as a coach in Sheffield.

Stars made it back-to-back wins last night as they triumphed 6-1 in Dundee Ice Arena.

Early goals from Brian Hart and Matt Bissonnett­e gave Dundee the best-possible start.

Stars added to their lead with another pair of goals, Matt Marquardt netting twice in the space of 21 seconds.

Steelers’ coach, Barrasso decided enough was enough and substitute­d netminder Matt Climie for Jackson Whistle with just under 13 minutes left i n the middle period.
