Dale’s late double is icing on Kirrie’s cake

CARNOUSTIE lost 4-1 at Kirrie Thistle in the Super League.

Sam Simpson gave the Gowfers the lead when he converted a penalty in 17 minutes.

However, the Gowfers imploded in the second half with the Westview side running them ragged after the break.

Ryan Kerrigan levelled in 57 minutes and, three minutes later, Paul Sludden gave the hosts the lead.

Then, to rub salt into the Gowfers wounds, a double from Dale Reid completed a 4-1 win for the home side.

Downfield lost 5-2 at Thornton. The writing was on the wall when they found themselves three down after a disastrous first eight minutes.

Gary Thomson got the opener in three minutes and another two quickly followed from Ben Anthony and Adam Drummond.

The Spiders replied with a Jordan Garden goal in 17 minutes but Anthony restored Hibs’ three-goal advantage in 28 minutes.

Ross Gallagher pulled another back in 84 minutes but, a minute later, Anthony sealed their fate and also completed his hat-trick.

RESULT of the week – It’s difficult to ignore Broughty’s thumping win at Coupar, while Lochee Harp deserve a mention for beating Tayport. However, the award goes to KINNOULL, who ended North End’s proud unbeaten l eague record with a 3-1 win at North End Park.
