New boy Davies’ injury could give boss Macca a major signing headache
DUNDEE boss Jim McIntyre may have to rejig his signing plans for this transfer window if the worst f ears over new recruit Andrew Davies are confirmed.
Davies, who only signed up on an 18-month deal last week, was stretchered off with a suspected broken foot during a bounce game against St Johnstone on Saturday.
And if a scan t oday reveals he has i ndeed suffered a break, it could mean a long-term absence for the 34-year-old.
That, in turn, would force a rethink when it comes to further signing targets this month.
With Andy Boyle’s loan spell from Preston North End being brought to a premature end and Darren O’Dea facing a two-game suspension that will take in next week’s top flight clashes with Hearts and Mother well, it means Dundee have just two fit first-team centre backs – Genseric Kusunga and Ryan Inniss.
And having t argeted midfield and t he wide areas as his signing priorities for the rest of the window, Jim may have to instead move for another central defender.
Another option may be to recall 20-year-old Kerr Waddell from his loan at Morton, though it’s not clear if that is possible and, having already played in the Scottish Cup for the Greenock men, he would not be available for this weekend’s Dens Park tie against Queen of the South.
Although Premiership survival remains by far the top priority, Jim has stressed that he wants a run in the cup as well.
“The first game is the cup game and we want to go into the next round,” he said. “It’s important to the club and it’s always good to try and get some sort of cup run. It’s good for the revenue so we are fixed on getting a positive result.”
