Alcohol stolen in shop raid

-

POLICE are appealing for information after a shop was broken into and alcohol stolen.

Usave, on Jeanfield Road in Perth, had a large quantity of cigarettes and alcohol stolen following a raid in the early hours of Saturday.

Police described the raid as “unusual”, in that the crooks gained entry to the premises through the front door.

They added there was a “good chance” the thieves had already tried to sell on the goods stolen during the incident.

A spokesman said: “Officers would like to trace two men in connection with the incident. The f i r st is described as wearing a light-coloured fleece over a hooded top, jeans ripped at both knees, and white Nike trainers.

“The second is described as wearing a white hooded top, dark trousers and white trainers. If you have any information, please call 101 or speak to any p o l i c e o f f i c e r. O u r reference is CR/883/19.” A SA FET Y cha rit y has l a b e l led t wo mobi l it y scooter riders as “highly irresponsible” after they were filmed driving the vehicle down a Dundee street.

The footage showed two people in hoods riding tandem down Perrie Street in Lochee.

The video was recorded by a passenger in another vehicle while they headed towards South Road.

One of the young scooter riders is holding on to the other as they steer the vehicle past the junction with Lorne Street.

It is unclear when exactly the footage was filmed but it appeared online at the weekend.

The 12-second clip has already racked up thousands of views online. A man’s voice can he heard inside the car as it passes the scooter as he gives a running, horse racing-style commentary as he overtakes.

Class 3 scooters can reach speeds of up to 8mph and are designed to be used on both pavements and road surfaces – and not by two people at once.

Nick Lloyd, acting head of road safety charity the The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), has hit out at the pair and insisted they were putting themselves in a dangerous situation by riding the scooter together. The charity works to change legislation and attitudes surrounding road accidents.

He said: “Mobility scooters are an important form of transport for people who might otherwise not be able to get out and about.

“Class 3 mobility scooters have a maximum speed of 8mph and are allowed on the road.

“However, they can legally only be used by a disabled person aged over 14 or a person demonstrating the vehicle before a sale.

“The video shows two people using the mobility scooter in a highly irresponsible way.

“The vehicle is not designed to carry two people and using it in this fashion on the road runs the risk of them injuring themselves and others.”

One social media user said the incident has “blown up” since the video emerged of the pair.

He said: “I’m sure it has taken place over the weekend at some point. The audio on the video certainly adds something to what’s happening.”
