Race night in memory of tragic footballer
ABERTAY Football Club is to host a race night in memory of a young team member who died tragically last year.
Ross Cook was only 19 when he was struck by a train while visiting family in Dumfriesshire last February.
The popular student’s Dundee-based football club will hold its second event in his memory next month.
A Race Night for Ross Cook will involve team-mates, students and friends coming together for a fundraising evening at the Abertay Students’ Union.
Proceeds will be donated towards the Sanquhar Academy PE department – Ross’s former school – and Abertay Football Club.
A statement on the club’s Facebook page said both his old school and university football team held a “special place” in Ross’s heart.
The event will be held in Bar One in the students’ union on Wednesday February 6.
Tickets are priced at £5.
More information about how to buy tickets or contribute towards the event can be found on the Abertay Students’ Union website and on the football club’s Facebook page.
Ross also played for local junior team Newburgh Juniors, having signed for the Fife club in 2016.
His home town of Sanquhar was left heartbroken following his tragic death.
Ross was described by family and friends as “one in a million”.
