Delight at school approval

-

PARENTS of pupils at Madras College have expressed their delight after plans for a new school were approved.

Children, who continue to be taught in deteriorating buildings at South Street and Kilrymont Road, could move into a £50 million replacement in just over two years.

Madras Parent Council welcomed the granting of planning permission for the new St Andrews secondary school.

Chairwoman Susan Simpson said: “Madras Parent Council is delighted that the planning application for the new Madras College has finally been approved.

“While the head teacher and his staff continue to deliver a strong curriculum in the current buildings, the delivery of a new building as a single site is greatly welcomed.

“This can only help to enhance the excellent learning and teaching currently taking place in Madras College in a new building more suitable for 21st Century education.” A NEW charity for young LGBT+ people has been set up in Dundee after receiving lottery funding.

The project will enable young people to take part in a three-year film-making project.

Through The Lens will be delivered by Scottish human rights charity Pink Saltire, which hopes the project will give useful practical experience for those who want to progress their career in front of the camera and reduce isolation among young gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

The group will have access to more than £85,000 handed out by the Big Lottery Fund.
