Plan for nursery on housing site

-

approved in April 2015. As part of the latest phase of the plans, Springfield detailed 100 new two, three and four-bedroom homes as well as a school campus and a sports complex.

Exactly how the school campus will work has yet to be decided. The campus was added to the plans to allay fears of other local schools being overcrowded.

Springfield said the new school would be funded by the “roof tax” of £4,680 for each home built on the site that it was paying to the council.

The housebuilder is consulting with Dundee, Angus and Perth and Kinross local authorities about how best to proceed.

The first option being considered is to build a stand-alone Dundee-run primary school in the South Gray Village, or develop a “super school” campus for children aged 3-18, operated in partnership by all three councils.

While the school plan is still being discussed, Angus Council has confirmed it has no objection to the wider plan, which straddles the Dundee-Angus council borders.

Kate Cowey, service leader in planning and communities, said in a response to the application: “The current planning application is not considered to have a detrimental impact on the land use planning interests in Angus.

“The current planning application does not raise any issues of strategic significance for Angus Council.”
