Aces high as they go five clear at top

IN a re-scheduled Dundee and District Table Associatio­n Division One clash, Aces defeated Knights 6-4 to move five points clear of Up4it at the top.

Knights are eight points behind Up4it in third but have a fixture in hand on the top two.

Aces went i n front when Zeesth Naseem defeated Stuart Halliday 3-0 but Peter Aird levelled for Knights after he beat Grant Williams 3-0.

Match three went the distance with Robert Toth winning it 15-13 in the fifth against Mark Lundberg to put Knights ahead.

However, three match wins in a row put Aces in command.

First Grant beat Stuart 12-10 in the fourth, then Zeesth had a brilliant 3-0 victory over Robert and, finally, Mark beat Peter 12-10 in the third.

Stuart and Robert won the doubles for Knights 13-11 i n the fourth against Zeesth and Mark. Robert then got Knights level at 4-4 after he defeated Grant 3-1.

However, two further 3-1 victories for Mark over Stuart and Zeesth against Peter saw Aces secure the victory.

Telsports had a fine victory over Astronauts to move up to fifth in Division Three and still have fixtures in hand over all their rivals.

The majority of ties in the Handicap Cup first round took place and were settled comfortabl­y with Tass, Chieftains, Comets, Duffers, Missiles, Sputniks, Buccaneers and Brechin all going through to round two.

Closest t i e s we r e when Division Three Lairds won two games at the end to defeat Division Two leaders Villa.

Second Division New Kids had a close comefrom-behind victory against then Division One leaders Up4it. New Kids won 26-25.
