Saints will have to see off Staggies for Caley man Liam’s signature

-

ST JOHNSTONE have been linked with a move for Inverness Caley Thistle midfielder Liam Polworth.

H o w e v e r, m a n a g e r Tommy Wright said: “There are players we’re being linked to but it’s only fair I only comment when something happens.”

However, should it be the case that Polworth is on Saints’ radar they have company in their interest in him from Ross County.

The Championship side are desperate to regain their Premier League place and chairman Roy McGregor is likely to spend money getting them there.

Polworth, 24, was born in Inverness so a move to Ross County would not result in him leaving the Highlands.

Meanwhile, Saints midfielder Murray Davidson, hurt in the win away to St Mirren, will not be fit for Saturday’s home Scottish Cup tie against Hamilton.

His knee injury is progressing but the Hamilton tie will come too soon for him.

Saints have a great home and away record against Hamilton and want to keep that going.

Looking to the game, Tommy said: “We finished 2018 strongly.

“We had a fantastic unbeaten run and, before that, the players showed great character to bounce back from two defeats.

“Our performances in both losses were good but it was great to bounce back with two away wins to round off the year in style.

“The victory against Dundee at Dens Park was particularly pleasing due to the manner of the win.

“We’ve got to keep that going against Hamilton.

“After that we’ve got 13 tough games to look forward to before the split, starting with Livingston at home on the Wednesday and my players will give everything to finish as high up the table as possible.”
