10 weeks of road closures

-

PERTH city centre motorists are set to face more than two months of roadworks.

Perth and Kinross Council intends to carry out improvement works on the corner of Barrack Street and Caledonian Road from Monday, for eight to 10 weeks.

The works will include upgrading t he t r af f i c signal equipment, resurfacing the carriage and footways, and improvements to t he junction layout to reduce the number of crossing points.

By reducing the number of traffic islands, the local authority hopes the junction will be more pedestrian-friendly and safer for routine traffic signal maintenance.

Additionally, the bus lane will be changed into a cycle lane as it is deemed to be underused and can be difficult for vehicles to manoeuvre out of.

T h e w o r k s wi l l b e broken up i nto t hree different phases.

The first will last six weeks, with three-way temporary lights covering the majority of the junction layout changes.

The second will start on October 7 and last four weeks.

Phase three will involve full closure of the junction overnight for two weeks.

During the closures the official diversion route will be via Caledonian Road, Glasgow Road, Broxden Roundabout, the A9 bypass, A85 Crieff Road and Dunkeld Road. A DUNDEE food charity has provided more than 10,000 meals to school children over the summer school holiday.

FareShare Tayside and Fife, a surplus food redistribution charity run by Transform, gave out an estimated 13,334 meals to children at risk of hunger over the six-week break.

The food provision was co-ordinated as part of FareShare’s ActiveAte campaign, which supports children at risk of hunger when schools break up and the safety net of free school meals is gone.
