East goalscorer is ‘Myles’ ahead

-

DUNDEE East U/14 took part in a remarkable match.

They welcomed Glenrothes Strollers to Dawson Park in the U/15 SFA East League and the match finished 4-4 — with seven of the goals coming in the second half!

The game was a personal triumph for East’s Emmie Myles, who scored all four goals for the home team.

It looked like being a close encounter right from the off.

There was only one goal in a tense first half.

Myles notched the first of her quartet after a neat pass helped her spring the offside trap before she coolly stroked the ball home from 15 yards.

Going into the break 1-0 up, East started the second period playing into the strong wind.

However, they put on a bright display and Myles’ second came just five minutes into the half.

It was almost a carbon copy of her first goal with a quick break being expertly finished.

If the home team had held on for a bit longer that might have been that but then Strollers came storming back.

Just three minutes after falling two behind, the visitors were back in the game.

Their breakthrough came courtesy of the penalty spot.

Darcie Leslie was adjudged to have barged through the back of an opponent on the edge of the area.

The Strollers penalty taker made no mistake from the spot.

This proved a turning point as, just a minute later, the Fife side equalised when a cross into the box was turned home from close range.

The home side were shocked when Glenrothes took the lead for the first time.

A shot struck from inside a congested box found its way into the East net.

It was the visitors’ third strike in just seven sensational second-half minutes.

However, East refused to give up the fight.

With 15 minutes left, they drew level.

Great work at the back by Aimee Hume proved to be the platform on which the equaliser was built.

She won the ball before firing a delicate pass to Myles whose fine finish from just inside the penalty box completed her hat-trick.

This gave East increased confidence and, with five minutes left to play, it looked like they had finally made sure of all three points.

Myles continued on her personal scoring crusade by firing in her’s and East’s fourth. The goal came after fine battling play by Charli Ewing gave her the chance to fire home.

However, Strollers were not to be denied and found an equaliser in the final two minutes. It was a breathless end to a great ing second half.

In the end, both deserved something from what was a thrilling game.

It was a match which was an extremely good advert for girls’ football in this area.
