- BY DAVID WREN

VOTERS are hitting the polls today to choose their Westminster MPs for the third time in four years.

Polling stations across the city welcomed a steady stream of residents keen to have their say.

The stations are expected to remain busy as the day goes on, with thousands of locals getting involved in the process of choosing the next UK Government.

In Dundee West, Chris Law is defending his seat on behalf of the SNP.

Mr Law has contested each of the past three elections, winning his seat in 2017 by 5,262 votes.

For Labour, former firefighter

Jim Malone is flying the flag as he looks to wrestle the seat from Mr Law.

It’s not the first election Mr Malone has contested this year, after losing out to SNP candidate Steven Rome in the North East byelection back in April.

Daniel Coleman will be standing for the Liberal Democrats in his second bid for the seat, also standing as a candidate in 2015, when he earned 1,057 votes.

For the Conservatives, Tess White is looking to topple Mr Law and also standing in Dundee West is Quinta Arrey for the Christian People’s Alliance.

The final candidate for the area is Brexit Party member Stuart Waiton.

In Dundee East, Stewart Hosie is aiming to retain the seat for the SNP after he was victorious in the 2017 election with a majority of 6,645 votes.

Labour is being represented by active trade unionist and university tutor Rosalind Garton, while the Conservatives are pinning their hopes on Broughty Ferry councillor Phillip Scott.

Mr Scott has been in his current role i n the Ferry since 2017 and believes that a Tory MP is what Dundee needs to tackle its drug problems and lower unemployment.

Meanwhile, the Liberal Democrats have youth on their side with 21-year-old candidate Michael Crichton.

Mr Crichton is one of the youngest candidates in the United Kingdom.

Dundee East also has one of only four independent candidates contesting their constituency, with George Morton aiming to garner the most votes.
