Gowfers can make real treble for Kirrie
DESPI T E la st S at u rd ay ’s game at Downfield being post poned, Ca r noust ie remain five points clear at the top of the Super League.
The Gowfers will be hoping to at least maintain that position as they head into the final game of the year with a home match against Kirrie Thistle.
The sides have already met twice this season with Carnoustie winning both.
They were 1-0 victors in the Quest Precision Engineering Cup and, the following week, met again with Sam Simpson netting two penalties in a 4-1 win.
Completing the treble won’t be a formality, however, with Thistle showing this season they are more than capable of upsetting the odds.
They knocked last season’s finalists Largs Thistle out of the Scottish Cup and, more recently, drew with Lochee United at Thomson Park.
They were also unlucky to lose by the odd goal to Broughty Athletic in their last outing.
Thistle are minus the services of Stuart McKenna, Cammy Black and Kevin McNaughton.
Meanwhile, second-placed Broughty Athletic will be aiming to pick themselves up after Luncarty ended their five-match winning run.
The Fed face a tricky game at
Downfield Park this week. Broughty were 2-0 winners when the teams met at Whitton Park but the Spiders have won their last three matches and will be a big test for Jamie McCunnie’s side.
Both sides will be minus key players with Downfield’s Dale Davidson and Broughty’s Derryn Kesson ruled out through suspension
Lochee United will head over the water to Tayport in a confident mood following their convincing 4-0 win over North End, which ended a threegame run without a victory.
But they will face a buoyant Canniepairt outfit after the Fifers took full points from their last two matches to move off the bottom of the table.
