Reports linking Chelsea star striker Giroud with Gers is news to Gerrard

-

STEVEN Gerrard has laughed off reports linking Rangers with a move for French World Cup winner Olivier Giroud.

French newspaper L’Equipe claimed the Ibrox boss was keen on the Chelsea star and had already made contact with the 33-year-old over a potential deal.

G i r o u d ’s S t a m f o r d Bridge contract expires next summer and he has made just seven appearances for Frank L a m p a r d ’s s i d e this season.

But it does not appear that Giroud will be swapping the Blues of London for the Light Blues of Glasgow after Gerrard admitted he knew nothing about the story suggesting he was weighing up a swoop for t he f ormer Arsenal frontman.

He said: “We are getting linked with some good players. I don’t know anything about it, to be honest.

“If someone knows something about it, give them my number. That’s the first I’ve heard of it.

“He’s a good player, though.”

Meanwhile, Gerrard praised his side for refusing to hit the panic button against stuffy Kilmarnock.

Alfredo Morelos was the hero as he climbed off the bench to fire the only goal in the 1-0 Ibrox win.

The C o l o m b i a n ’s 65th-minute winner – his 28th strike of the season – came at the perfect time to alleviate t he growing unease sweeping through the Rangers support.

Home fans were starting to grow restless as their team struggled to break down a Killie side who have reverted to Steve C l a r k e ’s defensive masterplan under caretaker boss Alex Dyer.

But Gerrard’s team kept their cool to clinch the victory that means they go into Sunday’s Old Firm clash five points behind, with a game in hand.
