Man with hepatitis C on spitting charges

A DUNDEE man allegedly spat at a police officer while knowing he had hepatitis C.
Michael Connachan, 47, is also accused of threatening to spit at a doctor at Ninewells Hospital in a separate incident.
Prosecutors allege that on January 23, on Kirkconnel Terrace, where he resides, Connachan culpably and recklessly spat at PC Alexandra Morrison while knowing he had the illness. During the same incident, he allegedly struggled violently with 1870 by Pearce Brothers engineers, who also built Wallace Craigie Works, Wellfield Works and a number of jute mills in India.
It became renowned as a jute spinning mill, but has its roots in weaving.
The site was expanded in the 1940s with a distinctive corner entrance, which is now the Lilybank Mews housing development.
It was the last working jute mill in Dundee and the UK as a whole when its shutters came down in 1999.
The developer is currently out to tender for a firm to build the new homes. It is expected construction will begin in January, and is likely to take around 18 months.
The 37 houses will be two-storey with three bedrooms and include a mix of detached, semidetached and terraced properties.
A three-storey block will contain two-bedroom flats for people with learning disabilities and a onebedroom flat for staff.
Large swathes of the existing building – until recently home to a number of businesses – will be demolished to create vehicle access into the area.
However, several aspects of the building are listed and will be retained, including the old calendar – the large spools through which material is fed – and gable ends facing out on to Morgan Street.
Caledonia Housing Association’s bid to demolish Taybank Works and build homes on the site was approved in 2017.
The council said the need for local housing outweighed concerns about preserving historically significant buildings.
The housing association believes the cost of the demolition will be around £250,000. police officers and prevented handcuffs from being applied.
Connachan is additionally charged with shouting, swearing, acting aggressively and threatening to spit at a doctor while at Ninewells.
After being taken to police HQ on West Bell Street, Connachan allegedly kicked PC Lisa Scrimgeour on the leg.
He made no plea when he appeared on petition at the sheriff court. The case was continued for further examination by Sheriff Jillian MartinBrown who released him on bail. n A CRAIGIEBANK man who punched two people in Dundee city centre has been fined.
Nicholas Button, 29, of Margaret Crescent, pleaded guilty to carrying out the assaults on Nethergate on November 11 2019.
Button admitted assaulting Fraser Clarke by punching him on the head before committing an identical attack on Jevon McGregor.
He was fined a total of £600 by Sheriff Alastair Carmichael at the sheriff court.
