Gardener accused of fraud

-

A CARNOUSTIE gardener has been charged with defrauding 14 different people out of more than £10,000 by failing to do promised work.

Ryan Lawson allegedly pretended to carry out gardening and landscaping for customers across Dundee and Angus between March 2019 and January 2020.

The 30-year-old is accused of asking for an upfront payment and then failing to do the agreed work.

In total, Lawson allegedly obtained £10,720 from residents in Dundee, Carnoustie, Arbroath, Forfar and Montrose.

Prosecutors allege that the greatest amount of money defrauded from a single complainer was £3,500 from a woman living in Garry Place, Dundee, between April 8and June 6 2019.

Lawson denies all 12 of the charges he faces at Dundee Sheriff Court.

Sheriff Lorna Drummond fixed a further first diet for May.

A MAN is to stand trial over claims he used a baseball bat to knock a man unconscious.

Graeme McBrearty, 55, allegedly attacked Jackie Doig at Dundee’s Adamson Court on April 21 2019.

It is alleged that he assaulted Mr Doig by repeatedly striking him on the head and body with the baseball bat, knocking him unconscious as a result.

McBrearty, of Burnside Gardens, was allegedly found in possession of a bat on High Street, Lochee, Marshall Street and Adamson Court.

At Dundee Sheriff Court, defence solicitor Ross Donnelly said McBrearty was adhering to his plea of not guilty.
