Catchment area changes to affect five primary schools
DUNDEE City Council has approved changes in the catchment areas of five primary schools in the west of the city.
The boundary changes were approved at a meeting of the council’s children and families services committee earlier this week and will affect the following schools:
l Ancrum Road Primary School;
l Blackness Primary School;
l Camperdown Primary School; l Tayview Primary School; l Victoria Park Primary School.
The changes are due to come into effect in August.
The changes to the catchment area of Ancrum Road Primary will increase the number of catchment priority one pupils attending the school.
Realigning the catchment area for Ancrum Road Primary to include some of the current Camperdown Primary School area will enable Ancrum Road to be more connected to the community it serves.
The realignment of Victoria Park Primary and Blackness Primary catchment areas will mean they are better suited to the locations of the schools.
This would place both schools into their own catchment areas and result in a greater majority of young people living in the relevant catchment area of the primary school they attend.
The revision will also potentially reduce the number of placing requests to Victoria Park Primary School from Blackness Primary School’s catchment.
Tayview Primary School was opened in 2017 to replace Gowriehill Primary School and Hillside Primary School and has operated below planned occupancy levels.
Additionally, since 2013 there has been a considerable increase in the number of new-build houses in the catchment area and further housing developments are planned.
Siblings of current catchment area pupils attending these primary schools in August next year would be given priority to attend the same schools as long as their sibling is also attending the school at the point of enrolment.
