Man in hospital after gym ‘fight’

- BY LINDSEY HAMILTON

Fifteen-year-old Hendrix, who struggled to find a home due to poor health, is back with long-time pal Skye.

Hendrix featured in an appeal on January 2 last year, with staff at the Animal Rescue Centre in Petterden describing him as a “pup at heart” and, despite being an old pooch, still able to play fetch.

The chirpy canine has arthritis in his back legs and, whilst he is on long-term pain medication, he struggles with more strenuous exercise.

The team at the SSPCA’s facility – which is between Dundee and Forfar – feared he would never find a home as potential new owners feared high vet bills.

A MAN has been taken to hospital after a disturbance at a gym in Monifieth.

Police are investigating after being called to the David Lloyd gym at Ethiebeaton Park on Sunday.

The nature of the man’s injuries has not been confirmed, but one onlooker claimed that two people had been involved in a “fight”.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “One man was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee for treatment. Inquiries into the incident are ongoing.”

One customer complained on social media the gym had been slow to react to the incident.

In a post directed to David Lloyd they said: “What is going on at Dundee. A fight in the gym today, and as per usual, no gym staff about.”

They added: “Truly a disgusting sight. I hope the members involved have their memberships cancelled.

“There were kids in the gym today. There is just such a lack of gym staff going about.”

The firm responded: “We are sorry to hear about this. Was this reported to the club?”

The customer added an alarm was pressed and staff eventually arrived.

David Lloyd has been approached for comment.

In 2016 David Lloyd Leisure spent £800,000 upgrading the centre as part of a £20 million investment in its Scottish operations.
