Gowfers walking in Winter wonderland after Harp victory

- BY JUNICUS

THE scene is set for a final showdown on May 7 when the league title will be decided.

Both Carnoustie and East Craigie had comfortable wins on Saturday and the Gowfers now have one game left, away to Forfar WE. Craigie have two games left, both at home, the first against Tayport and finally they face North End.

At present Carnoustie lead by three points, with a goal difference which is two better than Craigie’s.

On Saturday, Jamie Winter made the breakthrough for the Gowfers after 11 minutes against Harp and Dale Reid knocked in a second just before half-time.

The hosts upped a gear in the second half with Winter striking again three minutes after the restart and Reid made it four on 55 minutes.

Harp pulled one back courtesy of a Ryan Suttie own goal on 74 minutes but the Gowfers finished strongly with Winter completing his hat-trick and Ryan Roche also found the back of the Harp net.

East Craigie looked a bit jaded in the first half against Brechin Vics, perhaps it was the shock of going one behind when Fraser gave Vics the lead with Grady McGrath levelling in 41 minutes.

A half-time pep talk saw a different Craigie side in the second half as they tore the visitors apart in the final 10 minutes with four goals.

McGrath gave them the lead on 82 minutes and a Rory Faulkner goal four minutes from time was followed by another two from Conan Howett and Fraser McLeod.

Lochee United have Danny Cavanagh to thank for picking up three points at Arbroath Vics.

Matty Keogh gave Vics the lead midway through the first half, with the Bluebells levelling through Cavanagh on the stroke of half-time and he went on to grab the winner in a hard-fought tussle in the second half.

North End strolled to a 5-1 win over bottom club Scone Thistle.

The Dokens struggled to break down the Scone defence in the first half but finally made the breakthrough on 33 minutes through Connor McLeod.

However, the game was over early in the second half as the Dokens added another two through Jamie Montgomery and Owen McCabe in the first three minutes after the restart.

A Kinnear goal for Scone reduced the scoreline but two late goals from Gary Sutherland, one from a penalty sealed the points for the hosts.

Tayport manager Eddie Wolecki Black got the response he was looking for after their poor performance the previous week when they hit Blairgowrie for six at Davie Park.

The game was over as a contest after 28 minutes as by that time the Fifers were 4-0 ahead through goals from Adam Fraser, Louis Joyce, Greg McColm and Luke Emmet.

Wolecki’s men continued in control in the second half with Jamie Hume and Daniel Dorovic adding two more.

Broughty Athletic just edged the points with a 2-1 victory at Forfar WE with Brad Smith and John Farquharson on target for the Fed.

Despite having Hutton sent off just on half-time, Downfield made it three wins in a row with a 4-2 win over St James.

Callum McLeary netted a double for the Spiders with their other two scored by Kyler Van Der Toorn and Robert Malone.

The St James goals came from McCrory and a Joe Garden own goal.

Blaike Kyles scored a hat-trick in Kirrie’s 5-0 win over Coupar Angus while a Fletcher goal on 82 minutes gave Forfar United victory over Letham.
