Leeds take point from Palace

-

LEEDS moved a point further away from the relegation zone after a lacklustre goalless draw at Crystal Palace.

In a game of few chances neither side was able to find the breakthrough.

The best fell to JeanPhilippe Mateta, but he was unable to find the net or really test Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

Leeds remain in 16th position, now five points clear of 18th-placed Everton, and Palace were able to bring an end to their three-match losing streak in all competitions, but remain in 14th.

Palace boss Patrick Vieira said: “I can be frustrated and the team can be frustrated. We played some really good football with a high tempo and were the better team but couldn’t find the net.

“I was pleased and happy with the determination we showed. The team deserved more than just the point.”

Leeds boss Jesse Marsch, whose side face Manchester City at Elland Road on Saturday, said:

“It wasn’t our best night. However, a recipe of not losing and finding a way to pick up points, we will take the positives. A clean sheet and a draw is a big, big positive. Kalvin Phillips is a big presence in our team and a big boost to have him back.

“The pressure was always going to be big no matter what. The challenge against Manchester City is like no other. We are excited for it and will play brave, but I know how good City are, they are the best team in the world.”
