United can’t let season slip to a dull conclusion

-

DUNDEE United have to be careful not to end their season on a downer.

We’ve seen it a number of times before when teams achieve top six and then their season falls away.

It can then carry over into the new campaign and that’s the last thing anybody at Tannadice wants to see.

But I’m probably getting ahead of myself. I hope I am anyway.

This weekend’s home clash with Motherwell is a bit of a knife-edge game, though.

Win and they are pretty much guaranteed European football. Four points ahead of the Steelmen with three games to go, that’s not getting overturned.

They’d much rather be fourth, but fifth gets a spot in the Conference League and that’s not to be sniffed at.

If they don’t win, though, they then face back-to-back matches against the Old Firm and then a toughie away to Ross County.

So, they will put themselves under some real pressure if they don’t get three points against the Steelmen.

And that can continue beyond just one game, whether it’s a bit of disgruntlement in the stands or the players take a confidence hit.

It is a huge game at Tannadice and one

United should be winning. Motherwell haven’t been great for a while but they are a tough team.

If they don’t, Tannadice won’t be a cheery place.
