Memories of a golden time

-

FOR many years, Scottish football has seen only two teams battling it out for the league title.

Rangers and Celtic have ruled the roost, with a generation of fans never having seen a team outside of Glasgow lifting the title.

Yet it was not always thus.

Both Dundee teams have tasted ultimate triumph.

In 1962 it was the Dark Blues who got their hands on silverware, following a memorable victory at Muirton Park

(see page 3).

The club went on to conquer much of Europe the following season, before eventually losing to AC Milan in the semi-final of the European Cup.

To describe such a scenario now as fanciful would be a huge understatement.

For those lucky enough to witness them, they were truly incredible times.

Stories are all those fans have left – but it is still more than most modern-day supporters of so-called provincial clubs can boast.
