Incompetence starts at the top

-

THE article in the Tele entitled “Pools hopes sink as shutdown drags on” was very informative by naming the 13 board members, some of them sitting councillors.

All very useful information to give Dundee’s citizens prior to the local elections next month.

It occurred to me when I read that article that at least some of these 13 board members have special skills – however, their special skills may not be the right set required to occupy seats in that particular board.

Specifically one must have special skills to be a school teacher or a law lecturer or to work in a library – as some of these board members do.

But what use are these types of skills when running the new Olympia?

It is a bit like asking a highly skilled joiner to install a new shower – the joiner doesn’t have the skills to do that job.

It is no surprise, then, that the pools are shut and likely to remain shut probably forever – many Dundonians think the Olympia should be demolished as all that board are really doing is throwing good money after bad.

I think far too many got their place on the board simply because they are SNP councillors.

Do any of these board members get paid? How often are elections to that board, and by whom?

We in Dundee have had other recent financial disasters caused by having unskilled

SNP councillors making poor decisions.

For example, getting the wrong type of roofs on Dundee City Council tenancies and the new debacle about the heating system at Dundee House.

And let’s not forget that expensive monstrosity of the metal Tay Whale.

Incompetence runs right through Dundee’s local authority. It starts at the top.

One wonders what special skills, if any, Genial John Alexander has? Did he prove himself to be an outstanding success in leading any kind of business prior to becoming a councillor? Did any one of our councillors?
