Gordon teamed up with a Celtic great

-

I WAS recently looking though a catalogue of former Celtic players.

Great names such as Kenny Dalglish, Billy McNeill, Henrik Larsson, Roy Aitken and others.

Also in the company at the time was former Dundee and Dundee United striker Gordon Wallace and, as we perused through the ‘others’, Gordon said: “I played with him!”

That ‘him’ was Hoops great Bobby Evans.

I had no idea that Gordon’s career had included Evans as a team-mate.

But, sure enough, they teamed up at

Raith Rovers from 1965-68.

Gordon signed on at Stark’s Park in 1966 and was there for four years, so would have given him two seasons alongside Evans, who played around 400 games for Celtic and who was capped 48 times for Scotland.

My small piece (March 26 edition) on Jason Walker signing for Dundee United in “January 1974” prompted Andy Boyd to correct me.

Andy said: “Jason Walker signed for Dundee United on January 6 1975 and made his (reserve) debut the next day against Motherwell.”
