Could be Dens Park and could be Violet

-

A FEW responses came in to answer a plea first aired on April 9 and sent in by Graeme Brymer and the Dundee Historical Trust.

We showed a grainy photo (reproduced below) and asked for the identity of the team and also the venue and year.

The first response came from Rob Boag, currently resident in Canada.

The Dundonian offered: “From the hair styles and amount of suits, I’d guess the 1920s-’30s.

“It is Dens Park, but not a Dundee FC team.

“If I’m guessing, it could be Violet after another successful season.

“Violet won the Scottish Junior Cup in season 1928–29, defeating Denny

Hibs 4–0 at Dens Park after a second replay.

“This could be a ‘studio’ shot taken the next day?”

Lochee’s Peter Wilson also reckoned it could be Dens Park and Violet, with

John Haggart, of Linlathen, also offering Dens, with “the winning team after a junior cup final”.

Would still welcome more input.
