Pub seeks brave new landlord

-

ARE you brave enough to run a “haunted” pub?

The Osnaburg Bar in Forfar needs a new landlord – but it comes with a spooky twist.

Local legend claims ghosts haunt both staff and punters in the 19th Century pub, which has also been visited by paranormal activity groups.

Members of staff claim to have witnessed inexplicable activity over the years, saying they hear strange sounds from the cellars.

Punters also claim to have heard mysterious sounds.

Paranormal groups and societies have visited the Angus pub, with claims they found ghostly activities.

According to legend, the pub is haunted by a chimney sweep who died in the flat above.

Some also claim it is the ghost of former pub landlord, Jim Cameron.

Now, pub owner Greene King is now looking for a brave landlord.

Greene King is offering a discounted rent of £75 per week for the first three months to help a new publican set up their business.

Aside from ghostly tales, the Osnaburg Bar has a rich history involving weaving. The name Osnaburg was derived from a measure of cloth that was used in 18th Century Scotland.

The pub was first established in 1835 and before then the building is believed to have been a weavers’ shop.

Billy Guthrie, business development manager for Greene King Pub Partners, said: “The historic and charming Osnaburg Bar is the best local in town and is famous for its warm and friendly welcome – ghosts included.

“The site is in excellent condition and any new publican has heaps of potential to take the ‘Oz’ to the next level.”
