Giveaway to celebrate reopening
ONE of Perth’s most iconic buildings reopens at 1pm today for the first time since the start of the pandemic.
The Royal Scottish Geographical Society (RSGS) said the Fair Maid’s House visitor centre will be open from Thursday to Saturday from 1pm to 4.30pm.
To celebrate, RSGS will give the first 50 visitors a copy of Horrible Geography of Stunning Scotland, which explores the best and most gruesome of Scotland’s geography.
The Fair Maid’s House was made famous by Sir Walter Scott’s novel The Fair Maid Of Perth, with parts of it dating from 1475, is home to the RSGS’s collections and also features displays on geographical issues, explorers and the history of the society.
The society’s vast historical collections of maps, diaries, books, photos and artefacts – gathered from scientific explorations over the past 150 years – are all held at the house
It is at 15-19 North Port, just behind Perth Concert Hall, and is staffed by volunteers.
Anyone interested in joining the Fair Maid’s House team is asked to call 01738 455050 or email enquiries@ rsgs.org for more information.
