Brown in the running for Raith manager job with Whittaker as No2

-

CELTIC legend Scott Brown is a shock contender to replace John McGlynn as Raith Rovers boss.

Brown, 36, is currently out of work following nine months as player/coach at Aberdeen.

However, the former Scotland and Hibernian star has been working with Dunfermline on a voluntary basis in recent weeks.

It is understood Brown, who hails from Fife, is keen to embark upon his managerial career and would be open to discussions regarding the vacancy in Kirkcaldy.

And, should Brown land the Stark’s Park job, he would seek to appoint former Hibs team-mate Steven Whittaker as his assistant manager.

Whittaker is currently on John Hughes’ coaching staff at the Pars.

Brown was among the final candidates for the St Mirren job recently, with Steven Naismith also considered. However, the

Buddies eventually opted for Stephen Robinson.

He has also been linked with the managerial role at English League One side Fleetwood.

After emerging through the ranks at Hibs, Brown joined Celtic in 2007. He went on to win 22 major honours during a storied spell with the Hoops.

The feisty midfielder also won 55 caps for Scotland, captaining his country in the process.

Brown studied for his relevant Uefa coaching badges during the latter stage of his playing career.

It’s believed that key figures in the Raith boardroom also admire the work of Kelty Hearts boss Kevin Thomson and Airdrie gaffer Ian Murray.

Laurie Ellis remains exceptionally highlyregarded, having served the club with distinction as a player then as a coach under Ray McKinnon.

Ellis was boss of Queen’s Park, leaving that role last December.
