Anne was the weakest link

- TF

I WAS somewhat taken aback when I read the story about Anne Robinson not renewing her contract on Channel 4s Countdown programme.

Her yearly salary was quoted as being in the region of £500,000, but was it a case of her being pushed or did she jump? I suspect the answer was the former – she was reportedly a disruptive element due to her inability to get on with other programme staff.

I held the view that BBC presenters were overpaid but the salary she was in receipt of is grossly excessive and I have no sentiments about seeing her depart the scene.

I did not believe she was the ideal choice to host this show, which I must say has never been the same since the passing of Richard Whitely several years ago.

There are several names in the pipeline but my favourite to fill the chair vacated by Ms Robinson has to be Richard Osman from Pointless and House of Games, another well-known and highly regarded presenter.

Good luck to whoever is chosen.
