Loose pipe shuts down road

-

A BUSY road in Dundee city centre was shut as emergency services dealt with a loose pipe.

A member of the public raised concerns after spotting the damaged downpipe on Commercial Street yesterday morning.

Firefighters removed lower sections of the pipe, which is attached to a fourstorey building.

Falling masonry, which was spotted by bystanders, was also removed.

The incident forced the closure of the road, which runs from near the Tay Road Bridge to the McManus.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue

Service said it was alerted to the incident at 7.17am and crews had left by 8.37am.

The road was reopened shortly after and the incident has been passed on to building standards at Dundee City Council.

Two fire appliances were in attendance, including an aerial appliance.

The incident affected bus services, including Stagecoach service 73/73A.
