Rafa fully focused on DP Tour

-

SPANIARD Rafa Cabrera Bello hopes focusing his efforts playing on one tour will help him rediscover his best form.

Five years ago the 37-year-old reached his highest world ranking of 16th but just one win since – at October’s Acciona Open de Espana – has seen him slip to 129th in the rankings.

That has cost him full playing rights on the PGA Tour and he knows the only way to boost his chances of being able to do so regularly is to succeed on the continent where he originally made his name.

“I don’t have full status on the PGA Tour so will be focusing on the DP World Tour,” said Cabrera Bello, whose best finish in 2022 was joint-second in Abu Dhabi in February.

The Spaniard will continue his revival bid at the Soudal Open, held at the Rinkven International Golf Club near Antwerp, as the DP World Tour returns to Belgium for the first time since 2019.

The likes of Bernd Wiesberger and local hope

Thomas Detry hope a decent performance will get them into next month’s US Open at Brookline.

Wiesberger, who is heading to the US PGA next week, said: “Major season is starting now so in the short term I want to make sure I get to play the US Open as well in a few weeks’ time.”

Detry added: “I am already qualified for the Open and I have the US Open Qualifiers over the next three DP World Tour events, so I am really looking forward to it.”
