United’s Uefa cup heroes mark milestone

THE heroes of Dundee United’s 1987 European campaign were reunited at the Whitehall Theatre last night to celebrate the 35th anniversary of their journey to the Uefa Cup final.

Universitatea Craiova, Hajduk Split and European giants Barcelona and Borussia Mönchengladbach before losing 2-1 over two legs against IFK Gothenburg.

Among the ex-Tangerines on stage on

Friday were former club captain Paul Hegarty, who has admitted in the past that the frustration at not winning the final is still very real.

Many of the players remain close friends to this day.
