Bobby Evans did it before Slim Jim

-

CELTIC fan Willie Smith replied to the recent story on April 30 of Gordon Wallace playing alongside former Celtic great Bobby Evans at Raith Rovers.

The Perth resident (80) said: “He was my late father Samuel’s favourite Celtic player.

“The admiration started before his time at Parkhead, though.

“We stayed in Glasgow at the time and dad used to go and see junior club Pollock.

“Evans was a young player with The Lok and dad just knew he would go on to the senior ranks.

“It was a real bonus for us that it was Celtic who signed him.”

Willie continued: “Some Rangers fans consider ‘Slim’ Jim Baxter the first player to wear his shirt outside his shorts.

“Not true, as Bobby Evans was doing that in the 1950s.”
