Violent crime a concern for all

- KS

AFTER reading Carolyn Taylor’s well-written correspondence on violence in this country I had to agree with her on many points.

However, her letter implies that women are the main target of violence on our streets. When one looks at the Home Office statistics the fact is that 73% of victims of murder on our streets are men and 27% are women.

Therefore, men are far more likely to be murdered than women – especially in inner city areas. Carolyn’s letter also implies that the number of women committing acts of violence is negligible.

This of course is a fallacy as statistics tell us that 9% of murders committed in the UK over the last 10 years were by females.

That means that the bulk of violent crime is carried out by men and is horrific in itself.

One might ask what is the Scottish Government doing about this?

They are in fact legislating as we speak for more bail for violent offenders rather than less with potentially calamitous consequences for public safety.

Prisoners were released during the pandemic and went on to commit further serious crimes. Scottish ministers cannot be trusted to keep our streets safe.

They continually take their eyes off the ball regarding their duty of care to protect the ordinary decent citizens of Scotland.

To those who voted for the SNP and put them into power I say this.

As you wind your way home when the dark nights are upon us looking over your shoulder, just remember it was yourself that voted in those that are releasing the most violent criminals on to our streets.
