Vandals hit Dens Park goalposts

- BY HANNAH BALLANTYNE

VANDALS have struck at Dundee FC’s Dens Park.

The goalposts were brought down during the incident which is believed to have happened on Saturday night.

Groundsman Brian Robertson Snr made the discovery on his return to work yesterday morning and took to Twitter to express his frustration.

He hopes CCTV footage at the ground will catch the culprits.

Brian Snr – who shares Dens duties with son Brian Jnr – wrote: “Came this morning, great start. Hoping the cameras all picked it up.”

Police Scotland said they were unaware of the incident, while Dundee refused to comment.

Dark Blues supporters also hit out the actions of the yobs that caused the damage.

@Soccermarsh1 wrote: “Not good at all – doesn’t make your job any easier Brian. On a positive note, the pitch looks absolutely fantastic!”

@andycamno7 replied: “Little b******s – but it is very easy to get in mate.”

@martintosh added: “Oh that’s not good.”

@derrymac said: “Apart from that, pitch is looking great!”

Last year Brian Jnr spoke to our

Dundee FC correspondent George Cran about the challenges and perks of his role as groundsman.

He said: “For a Saturday game, we’ll have the pitch ready on a Friday in case some really bad weather comes in, but sometimes you can’t do anything.

“It is a constant battle with the weather, but a good battle and I enjoy it.

“I love the job. Especially in the summer when the weather is good – you can’t beat working in the sun.

“It’s really tiring but enjoyable anyway.

“Dundee FC is a great club to work for as well. The staff are really good and we have good banter around the place.”

Dundee FC are back in action at Dens on Saturday when they host Hamilton Accies in the group stage of the League Cup.
