Trust voters to make a choice

- Theodore Roosevelt FINTRY FRANK

READER R Watson asks if I have been living abroad (Letters, February 19). My answer is yes!

Far from the Cuckooland that he must live in by himself, I have been residing in one of the many, densely populated tax havens created by Westminster, where all their elite go at our expense, and living off the many financial benefits, provided by our “cult” SNP government on top of free bus travel, free prescriptions, free baby boxes, a new fairer, inclusive social security system, to name but a few.

Can I ask, my dear R Watson, what school he ever attended and wonder what government was in power back then because the last time I looked, the Holyrood elections in 2021 produced the greatest turnout in the history of the SNP – so much for low turnouts – with a whopping “63% of the electorate turning out to vote, a full 10 percentage points above the average for previous Holyrood polls.

Every single government in the UK has historically failed their electorate in some way, shape or form over the years and, yes, the buck stops firmly and squarely at the feet of Westminster and I make no apology for that. Just look at the state of councils south of the border who have gone bankrupt or into administration and, yes, I agree to a lesser degree the SNP has also failed in some areas, however the scapegoating and witchhunting of certain politicians over the years, in an effort to weaken the opposition and deflect responsibility and accountability, is deplorable.

I have never voted SNP in my life but trust the Scottish electorate to determine at the ballot box, as it should be, who has their best interests at heart and not be swayed by those who shout the loudest, or write the most letters for that matter. Until then, the SNP will govern this country to the best of their ability and care, with openness, honesty, sincerity, fairness and a great degree of due diligence, something greatly lacking elsewhere in the UK.

One thing that stands out for me, against everything else and from all the other political parties is that the

SNP government cares about the Scottish electorate and the Scottish people in general and to quote, as did, R Watson:

“Nobody cares how much you know, until they know how much you care.”
