School ‘still blown away’ by success

- BY LOGAN HUTCHISON

WITH nominations now open for the 23-24 Dundee Sports Awards, the Evening Telegraph is taking a look at some previous winners and what the accolade meant to them.

In the next of our series, we take a look at the winner of the 22-23 Changing Lives Award, Rosebank Primary School.

The school has a refreshing and empowering view towards health and wellbeing, towards not only the young people within the school, but the wider school community including families and carers.

The school acknowledges that changing and embedding positive healthy behaviours must include the whole family unit.

As a result of this attitude, a 15-week Best Foot Forward healthy lifestyle programme was created with the input of partners including NHS Tayside, Active Schools, Dundee Bairns, Tayside Contracts and the dental health team.

The programme aims to create and sustain healthy habits for life, with an emphasis on using sport and physical activity as the vehicle to drive conversation around the wider health and wellbeing of individuals and families.

Jillian Walker, Active Schools co-ordinator for the Morgan Academy cluster, said: “Rosebank Primary School is still blown away by receiving a Dundee Sports Award last year.

“The acknowledgement of the school’s commitment to promoting a thriving and inclusive sports environment has further fuelled our enthusiasm to enhance and develop projects throughout the year.

“Rosebank has participated in festivals and events, including some additional support needs events this year, showcasing our commitment to inclusivity.

“Our Best Foot Forward family programme is running again with 10 new fantastic families involved and considering a broader approach to wellbeing.

“With the year ahead, we aim to change behaviours and mindsets within and beyond the school community for all our Rosebank children and families.”

The 23-24 Dundee Sports Awards, sponsored by Gym Rental Company, will take place on Saturday May 11 at the Apex Hotel.

The awards evening will pay tribute to the success of our elite sports clubs and athletes and schools on the same evening and celebrate clubs, schools and

individuals that change lives through sport.

Nominations for the awards are now open, and there are 13 categories to choose from.

Only commitment contributed between April 2023 and March 2024 will be taken into consideration.
