Public to have say at Good Food workshop
THE Scottish Government will host a consultation workshop in Dundee about its Good Food Nation Plan.
The plan covers a range of food-related issues, from the rise of food insecurity and dietrelated illnesses through to the impact of the food system on livelihoods and climate.
As part of the public consultation to gather feedback on the draft of the plan, an event will be hosted on March 6 at 10am at The Steeple.
Rural Affairs Secretary Mairi Gougeon said: “In Scotland, we have an incredibly successful food and drink industry, with our products enjoyed by people across the globe.
“We want to make sure that everyone in Scotland can access affordable, sustainable food that is both high quality and environmentally friendly.
“Our consultation gives the public the chance to make their voices heard on many aspects of Scotland’s food culture. These views will be crucial in developing our future approach to improve Scotland’s food system.”
Project co-ordinator at the Maxwell Centre in Dundee, Alison Goodfellow, said: “Around Dundee we have some of the best farmland in Scotland with a wealth of local produce: heritage potatoes and apples, berries of all sorts, wheat, fish, meat and more.
“Much of this does not make it to local people’s plates, filled instead with cheaper, imported and highly processed food.
“Many local farmers struggle to make a living, a situation worsened by floods that have ruined thousands of tonnes of food.
“It is really important that Dundonians go along to the event and have their voice heard.
“The consultation offers us all the ideal opportunity to ensure that Scotland’s National Food plan makes our local food available, accessible, affordable and sustainable for all.”
The official consultation period for the plan will close on April 22 2024. To register for a workshop, visit: www.goodfood nationplan.scot
