Broughty bag another win in league title bid

BROUGHTY Athletic took another major stride in their bid for the Midlands League title with a 2-0 win at Downfield to maintain their 14-point lead in the table.

Adam Brown gave The Fed a half-time lead and Jamie Reid sealed the points with a second after the break.

Meanwhile second-placed Lochee United ground out a 2-0 win at Brechin Vics on a difficult surface.

The Bluebells took the lead after four minutes when Kerr Hay was fouled in the box and he dusted himself down to send a low shot into the Vics’ net from the resultant penalty.

George Johnson made sure of the three points when he doubled the lead on the hour.

North End kept up their challenge with an impressive 4-0 win at Montrose Roselea.

The Dokens led 2-0 at half-time through strikes from Cammy Blacklock and Jamie Montgomery with Paul Sludden and Stuart Heenan adding two more after the break.

Carnoustie recovered from their heavy defeat from Downfield with a comprehens­ive 5-2 win at East Craigie.

They took the lead when a Jay Yule cross was deflected into the Craigie net and that was the only goal of the first half.

The Gowfers scored a further four through a Sam Simpson penalty, then top scorer Dale Reid

bagged a hat-trick with Lee Lorimer and Ross McNaughton replying for the Shipbuilde­rs.

Tayport had to settle for a point at Strathmore Park in a goalless draw by Forfar West End.

Lochee Harp ended a poor run of results with a 2-1 victory at Arbroath Vics.

The Beechwood side took the lead on 66 minutes through a Matthew Riley penalty but

Vics hit back with an equaliser from Lewis Raeside on 73 minutes but Harp weren’t to be denied and Blair Fyffe grabbed a late winner.

For the second week running Dundee Violet suffered a single-goal defeat when Kirrie Thistle scored a stoppage-time winner.

The Pansies took the lead through Jordan Timmons just on half-time with the Westview side levelling through Tom Banyard and the Pansies came away empty-handed when Ryan Kerrigan netted a winner in time added on.

Letham won the bragging rights in the Perth derby with a 3-1 win at Scone Thistle.

Aidan Edwards scored twice in the opening 17 minutes to put Letham in control and even though Calum Black pulled a goal back Jayden Donald killed them off with Letham’s third.

Marco Notarangel­o got a first win under his belt as Blairgowri­e boss with a 5-2 victory at Dundee St James.

The hosts went ahead through Steve Abbot but Blair hit them hard with goals from A Cruikshank, a brace from R Cruikshank, Gemine and Davie before Dylan Higgins converted a late penalty for the hosts.

Forfar United took the lead against Coupar Angus through Ross Bell after four minutes but Scott McComiskie levelled for the Foxes on 11 minutes only for Gordon Norrie to restore United’s lead three minutes later.

Finlay Turner levelled on 28 minutes and two more from Thomas Smith and another from Turner gave the Foxes a 4-2 victory.
