Maolida’s hungry for Hibs glory

-

MYZIANE Maolida declared himself ready for the physical effects of Ramadan and Ross County as the Hibernian forward prepares for his first game of the Muslim fasting period.

The former France U-21 and current Comoros international began fasting during the daylight hours on Monday but will get the chance to eat in the evening before playing County tonight.

The 25-year-old cannot drink water during the day either but he feels the month-long sacrifice is worthwhile for his overall wellbeing.

The on-loan Hertha Berlin player said: “It’s not a difficult thing because I am prepared to do Ramadan, I did it last year.

“I am feeling very good in my body and head so it will be a good thing for me to do Ramadan.

“We have to eat in the morning at four o’clock and after prayers you cannot eat any more, you have to wait until six and you eat after sleeping again. If you eat well in the morning it’s very easy.

“The more difficult thing is not to drink but when it’s normal for you it’s not so difficult.” The former Lyon and Nice player began his fasting on the day after Hibs lost to Rangers in the Scottish Cup and he is hungry for league points now.

Nick Montgomery’s side can consolidate sixth place in the Premiership in Dingwall tonight but any slip-up would give encouragement to the likes of Dundee and Motherwell in the race for a top-half finish.

“It was a difficult game on Sunday but now we focus on the next games against Ross County and Livingston,” Maolida said. “We have to take six points to be in a good place.

“We know Ross County are a physical team, really aggressive, and we have to be ready.”
